The benefits of improved back health for men and women who practice yoga is a subject which is discussed frequently. As a person whom has had the opportunity to be involved in a yoga class which is specifically for men's back health improvement, I have heard some incredible testimonies from these men which are important enough to share. Here are a few actual comments from men that will be helpful to other men that are considering doing yoga for back pain.

A gentleman named Frank, aged 65, began the class on a suggestion from his wife. Frank was an avid golfer, but felt much pain in his back when golfing, and felt that he had lost power in his back. Frank attended the men's yoga class for back health, and truly had some challenges with the poses. But he persevered, and makes this comment: "I think this yoga class has been working for me. I like to play golf, but I haven't played golf for the last three years. Last week I went out and hit a bucket of balls for the first time and it felt pretty good. I never thought I'd play golf again so I'm sure it (yoga) is doing a good job. Beforehand, I never thought much about taking yoga. My brother told me one time he took a yoga course and I laughed at him because I thought yoga wasn't really for men.!"

The following message came from a young man in Tennessee named Chad:

"I have had chronic back pain for about six years, and it had gotten to the point that I was having trouble going up stairs, sleeping for more than an hour at a time, and even getting out of bed in the morning. I have seen countless doctors who could find nothing wrong with my spine. Visiting a chiropractor has helped some, but I have been completely miserable for over a year. I have avoided strong pain killers other than ibuprofen because I worried about their addictive nature.

I began using a specific yoga program on DVD last week, and already I am able to climb stairs and get out of bed like a normal human being. I still hurt, but the severity is greatly decreased. I cannot do the poses as well as the people in the video, but I can feel progress already. In fact, I have trouble even finishing the video, but I manage. When I do finish, I feel like a new man. It's simply unbelievable."

And a comment from a gentleman named Phil from Lake Forest, CA, on the results of another man doing yoga:

"As an older man, I have had back problems due to many years of playing a variety of sports and running. I was skeptical about yoga at first but now that I have been using these non-impact stretching yoga exercises, my back and core muscles are much improved. It takes a little time to become comfortable, but this is well worthwhile for those, like me, are just starting out in Yoga. It allows you to go at your own pace."

A key to beginning yoga for men, and to using yoga for back health improvement, is to get with an instructor whom is experienced in dealing with back problems. It is also important to do a routine, either in a classroom or on video, that is crafted by a skilled yoga instructor for back health focus. Start slowly, remember to use the breathing techniques to relax, and do not look at is as a competition.

This article is very informative and destroys the myth that yoga should be used by women only.
